Government Withdraws Recognition and Financial Support for Lakapi Samoa

The Government of Samoa has officially withdrawn its recognition and financial support for Lakapi Samoa following months of consultation and unsuccessful attempts to resolve ongoing issues within the national rugby union.

In a statement released by the Government Press Secretariat, Prime Minister La'aulialemalietoa Leuatea Polata'ivao Fosi Schmidt confirmed that all Government financial assistance and official support previously provided to Lakapi Samoa will cease with immediate effect.

The Prime Minister said the Government had given the Union sufficient time and opportunity to address the internal divisions affecting its administration, as well as concerns raised by former players, coaches, and stakeholders.

He also pointed to the continued decline of Samoan rugby's standing on the international stage as one of the factors considered in the Government's decision.

"The Government remains committed to the future development of rugby and will determine which union it will support to restore professional standards and Samoa's rightful place in world rugby."
